Started the day with a cup of hot oatmeal & a movie. Has any of you seen the move called
"Pearl Harbor" (2001)? Directed by Michael Bay & starring Ben Affleck&Josh Hartnett, it is about two young pilots in
WWII battling with the Japanese. Not surprisingly, these two boys, over a period of time, fell for the same girl (a nurse) and apparently, according to
Ben Affleck's character, his love for her kept him alive after the attack on Pearl Harbour.
[Some of Michael Bay's works: Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Transformers series (along with Steven Speilburg)]
Since it was broadcasted on one of the new movie channels on Foxtel, I missed the first part. However, watching the second part was enough for me. Watching the
Japanese brutally kill&destroy the American troops and their equipment& planes, it was horrible yet touching. Why is it touching? Because you see some of the soldiers, even if guns were firing at you, they still try and pull in the wounded regardless.
The attack on Pearl Harbour was
MAGNIFICENT. Although it was quite an old movie (I think), has pretty good special effects (: thumbs up for that. And the chaos in the hospitals and the lack of morphine, beds, etc was depicted VERY well.
Ben Affleck's character(Rafe) &
Josh Hartnett's character(Danny), both very close friends, survives the attack on Pearl Harbour and is promoted as Captain. They were sent on a top secret mission to bomb Tokyo, Japan and presumably land in China. Danny ends up getting shot by the Japanese troops after
bombing Tokyo and crash-landing in China. Before Danny dies however, Rafe manages to tell him Evelyn (the girl they both loved) is pregnant and he is going to be a father. Danny however tells him HE is going to be the father as he knows he will not make it. Rafe mourns over Danny and most of his team and Danny's team is saved by Chinese troops and manages to return back to America.
All in all, I think it was a great movie to start the day.
Makes me feel so much happier about my life at the moment.
thanks for the pic
After watching this movie, I am REALLY curious what my grandpa would think if I told him I learnt Japanese. Since he was around...8 (?) when WWII started, he would remember pretty clearly what happened....i.e. the Japanese ruined his life because his whole family was constantly on the run from the Japanese troops and his mother (my greatgrandma) had to look after around 4-5 children including an adopted baby she picked up on the way. My greatgrandma goes to show that there are kind hearts during times of despair.
God bless her (: and this also goes to show that kindness runs in the family XD.
On a brighter note, two more days until my birthday!! (:
JUST found out I have
double maths first day back. yay? -O-
